Licence, quota and offline grace
What the licence counts, how long the installation works offline, and why work may pause.
Steps
- An administrator opens Settings › Licence, enters the “Licence key” received by email, as given, and clicks “Activate”.
- Read the panel: plan, key, “Words this cycle”, “Words left” with the date of the new quota, any words carried over from the previous cycle, the automation API and book sharing your plan includes, “Certificate valid until” and “Last contact”. “Renew now” asks the licence server for a new certificate right away. When the licence server refused a renewal, the panel gives its reason.
- If a job stops because of the licence (quota reached, licence expired or refused, change of machine), deal with the cause, then click “Resume” on the book.
- To move Libris Translate to another server, click “Release this machine” on the old one: the key becomes available again, and the books already translated stay readable and exportable. “Change licence” replaces the key; the old licence gives its place back on its own.
What to know
The installation renews its certificate every hour by default, and a certificate is valid for 72 hours: an outage of the licence server interrupts nobody during that time, but it never extends a licence that has expired or been refused. The quota counts the words of the source text, all at once when a book is added, and in Chinese and Japanese two characters count as one word. The quota runs in monthly cycles that start on the anniversary of your subscription, not on the first of the month. A book is accepted as long as it fits in what is left of the cycle plus a margin of 20,000 words, and refused whole otherwise; words counted past the quota are taken from the next cycle. A book already counted is translated even once the quota is reached, and a book added before version 0.17 is still counted as it is translated, within the same margin. Reading, correcting and exporting never need the licence. Each plan sets a monthly word quota, a number of machines and a number of active accounts, and the Studio and Pro offers also include the automation API and sharing; with another licence, those features are hidden and refused, but nothing is deleted. If the publisher ends its activity, each valid licence receives a perpetual certificate: install it under Settings › Licence › Perpetual certificate, and Libris Translate then works on any machine with no end date and no quota. When all the machines of a licence are in use, activating another one moves the oldest, provided it has been in place for at least 7 days. If a redeployment looks like a change of machine, mount /etc/machine-id into the containers.
Fictional example
After a fictional network outage, check “Certificate valid until”, click “Renew now” once the server is reachable, then resume the paused demonstration job.
