Estimate before you start
See the words, the passages and the likely cost before you commit to an import or a job.
Steps
- Prepare the files in the import assistant. On the Confirmation step, the “Before importing” box counts the words, passages and chapters that will be created.
- Read the forecast: tokens sent and received, and the cost at the prices entered for the provider. Change the provider or the quality under “Translation settings” and the forecast follows, so you can compare.
- Look at the licence quota line: it says what share of the words left in the current quota cycle the book will use, counted as soon as it is imported. When the book needs more than what is left, margin included, it says so with the date of the new quota, or says that your account’s own monthly quota blocks it: the book cannot be imported, and the import buttons stay disabled.
- For a book already imported, the confirmation before an analysis, a translation or a review shows the same kind of estimate for that step.
What to know
An estimate is neither an invoice nor a reserved price. It is based on your previous books when there are some, otherwise on default values, and it leaves out the global consistency check, which depends on terms and characters the analysis has not found yet. Retries and review rounds can change the final cost. A provider without prices shows tokens only. The licence quota line, on the other hand, is exact: the estimate and the import make the same calculation. A book is counted when it is added, all of its words, and accepted as long as it fits in what the cycle has left plus the 20,000-word margin; otherwise it is refused whole and nothing is counted, whatever the road: import assistant, API, MCP, source watches, archive restore or second language. A book added before version 0.17 is still counted as it is translated.
Fictional example
Prepare a fictional 2,000-word chapter and compare the forecast of a local model, which has no prices entered, with that of a hosted API before choosing one.
