Gender and pronouns
Decide a character’s gender yourself, and keep that decision through later analyses.
Steps
- In the Characters tab, select a character. The “Gender and pronouns” section says whether the values are “Proposed by the analysis” or “Decided by you”.
- Choose the gender (male, female, non-binary or undetermined), type the pronouns, then click “Save the gender”.
- Translated passages that mention the character and that nobody has validated are marked for rechecking. Review them.
- “Give back to the analysis” hands these two fields back to the automatic proposals.
What to know
Only the gender and the pronouns become yours; the rest of the sheet keeps learning from the analysis. Undetermined is a real value, not a gap: a narrator who hides a character’s gender on purpose is a fact of the book, and the translation keeps that door open. A field shown as “Not filled in” is not a confirmed gender.
Fictional example
Set a fictional character’s gender to non-binary with the pronouns “they/them”, then review the passages that mention them and were marked for rechecking.
