Assistants

MCP Libris Translate

The MCP server lets an assistant read your library, prepare context and control jobs with your account’s permissions.

Connection

  1. Create an automation token in My account › API tokens. MCP comes with the Studio and Pro plans: with another licence, the call answers 402 with the code automation_not_licensed. Choose the required scopes.
  2. In your MCP client, choose a remote HTTP server at https://libris.example/mcp, replacing the example with your installation’s HTTPS address.
  3. Supply Authorization: Bearer with the secret from your client’s secure storage. Initialize the connection, then request tools/list.

The transport accepts JSON-RPC on POST /mcp and returns JSON. Its announced protocol version is 2025-06-18. It exposes no GET SSE stream, MCP resources or prompts. A 405 on GET /mcp therefore does not mean that POST is unavailable.

A deliberate workflow

Import the book through the interface or REST API first: this MCP catalogue has no file-upload tool.

Ask the assistant to list books, read the selected book and call estimate_job before start_job. Identifiers must come from earlier responses. Follow progress with list_jobs; use control_job for pause, resume, cancel or retry. Jobs call models and can incur charges.

Two tools ask for more than the scope that opens them. propagate_term only previews by default: it counts passages, occurrences and chapters, sets human corrections apart and shows up to five examples; writing needs the same call with dry_run=false and confirm=true. control_series starts, suspends, resumes or cancels a whole series, and its start action requires pipeline:start on top of jobs:control — a token that can stop a series must not be able to bill one.

Deletions require confirm=true: confirm the affected object before authorizing them. Use shelve_book to archive. export_book returns TXT or Markdown and may truncate long output; request a chapter range for long books and use the interface or REST for EPUB.

Tool catalogue

Every call remains subject to token scopes and the account’s effective access. The catalogue announced by your installation is authoritative.

Refusals and limits

A refused tool call may return isError=true inside the MCP result: read that field, not only the HTTP status. Revoking the token removes access. Token budgets, rate limits, licence guards and job pauses still apply.
